Based on Ilene Beckerman’s bestselling book, this tender and witty play weaves together monologues and ensemble pieces to explore the deep connections between clothing and memory, touching on themes like mothers, prom dresses, bras, purses, and the timeless appeal of black clothing. Through a series of humorous and heartfelt stories, Love, Loss, and What I Wore delves into the universal experiences of women’s lives, marked by milestones, heartbreaks, and triumphs, all told through the lens of fashion. With its mix of nostalgia, humor, and poignant moments, the play invites audiences to reflect on how our clothes shape who we are and the memories we carry. Written by Delia and Nora Ephron, renowned for their sharp wit and keen observations of human relationships, this play combines humor, nostalgia, and deep emotional resonance, making it a timeless and relatable experience for all audiences.
Love, Loss, and What I Wore is performed by an all-star ensemble featuring a powerhouse cast of stage veterans and Cape May favorites: Kate McCauley Hathaway, Karen Ziemba, Marlena Lustik, Georgette Reilly Timoney, and Mary Ann Castagnetta.

Kate McCauley Hathaway
Kate is thrilled to be appearing once again in Cape May, her theatrical birthplace. She made her stage debut at the historic Cape May Playhouse, one of the first professional theaters in Southern New Jersey. Cape May Stage audiences are familiar with Kate’s long relationship with Cape May Stage, her having appeared in I Hate Hamlet, Steel Magnolias, Other Desert Cities, Erma Bombeck: At Wit’s End, Sylvia and, her acclaimed one-woman show, Ann, where she played the legendary governor of Texas, the late Ann Richards. Kate has performed elsewhere in many musicals, most notably as Fantine in the First National Tour of Les Miserables, Petra in the Walnut Street Theatre’s production of A Little Night Music, and as Eva Peron in Evita, at the Allenberry Playhouse. Kate is also a Broadway producer, presenting Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, On the Town, On Your Feet and Ann. Kate was also the lead producer for one of the first transgender-themed musical, Southern Comfort, which won many awards for its production at The Public Theater in New York. Kate has served on many non-profit boards, including the board of Cape May Stage. Kate is the mother of three, and the grandmother of four. She recently moved her permanent residence from New York City to Cape May where she lives with her husband, Jerry, and their dog, Lily Lou.
Karen Ziemba
Karen Ziemba appeared at Cape May Stage in America’s Sexiest Couple and Steel Magnolias. She received The Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance in Contact at Lincoln Center Theatre. For other stage appearances she’s been honored with three Tony nominations, The Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and Chicago’s JEFF Award. Marlena Lustik
Marlena Lustik made her debut on Broadway in Foxy with Bert Lahr. Other Broadway credits include Pousse Café and Days in the Trees. Off Broadway she appeared in the original productions of the Pulitzer Prize winning play The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds as Tillie and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest as Candy Star. Regional theatre credits include The O’Neill Sea Plays at The Long Wharf Theatre, Lady Be Good at The Goodspeed Opera House and A Seagull at the Kennedy Center. She has done commercials and was nominated for a CLIO for best actress in a commercial. Television and film credits include Rodeo Red and the Runaway, Times Square, With All Deliberate Speed and roles on Another World and One Life to Live. She appeared as Anna in the cult film Scream Bloody Murder and there is an interview with her about that film in Videoscope Magazine. At Cape May Stage, favorite roles include: Emily in The Life Span of a Fact, Aoife in Outside Mullingar, Mrs. Gottlieb in Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Julia in Lend Me A Tenor, Silda in Other Desert Cities, Berthe in Boeing Boeing, Lillian in I Hate Hamlet, and Ouiser in Steel Magnolias. She played Peg in Kalamazoo and Melissa Gardner in Love Letters in Lewes, Delaware.
Georgette Reilly Timoney
Georgette Reilly Timoney is delighted to return to Cape May Stage, where she performed in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins (directed by her current cast mate Marlena Lustik!). Georgette’s stage credits include Picking Palin at the NYC International Fringe Festival, A Christmas Story at Arkansas Rep, and Don’t Dress for Dinner at Bristol Valley Theatre in Upstate NY. A New Jersey native, Georgette’s home state credits include Steel Magnolias at Surflight in Beach Haven, and Chapter Two (opposite Bryan Cranston) at Shadow Lawn Stage in West Long Branch. Georgette is a veteran voice actor best-known for her role as “Agent Stepmother” in the popular animated family feature film Secret Magic Control Agency and its sequel Secret Magic Control Agency II: Mission Sleeping Beauty. Georgette spent two decades as a PBS-TV producer. She recently wrote her first full-length play Taking Liberty, based on the letters between Abigail and John Adams.
Mary Ann Castagnetta
Mary Ann is returning to Cape May Stage and she couldn’t be happier. Her last role here was Esther in Mistakes Were Made. Some of the roles she has enjoyed were Reverend Mother in Nunsense, Tessie in Daughters and the Evil Character in just about every children’s play. Mary Ann and her husband Eddie and their two dogs, Baby Girl and Buddy Boy, love living in Cape May. She is the Author of 5 Children’s Books; Bubble Gum Dreams, Haunted Vacation and I Love Cape May, to name a few. Her husband Eddie is a well-known local Disc Jockey, and you can hear him on the radio just about every day. She would like to thank Eddie for all his love and support and feels like she is the luckiest girl in the world to have him as her best friend.
