“A viscerally gripping experience, but also a thought-provoking one, bound to inspire reflection long after its immediate intensity has worn off.”

“An intelligent thrill ride that is as moving as it is entertaining.”
~ Third Coast Review ~
Set in 1992 New York City, Dutch Masters is a thought-provoking play that follows a chance encounter between two young men—one Black, one white—on a subway ride. As their journey unfolds, this compelling play examines race, privilege, and the complexities of human connection, revealing hidden tensions beneath seemingly ordinary interactions. Through sharp, authentic dialogue, the characters are forced to confront their own biases and question the societal systems that shape their lives. With every exchange, the play peels back more layers, exploring the fine line between camaraderie and conflict, while exposing the fragility of identity in a racially divided world.

New York 1992 – a teeming Metropolis which holds as much promise as it does tension among its population. The question arises, how do we as individuals and fellow citizens learn to recognize, negotiate and respect the differences, politically, racially and economically in a city overflowing with eight million people? How many of these citizens have connections with one another they’re not aware of? Eric & Steve, our protagonists meet on a subway car during a seemingly chance encounter. They appear to be polar opposites of one other, at first glance, race and class appears to define them. Can these two New Yorkers break through the differences to discover the possible ties that bind them?

He most recently wrapped post-production on his short film, AWoL, which he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in loosely based on his experience working at a special needs high school. He first performed in the theatrical production of Dutch Masters Directed by Stephanie Shroyer at The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in November, 2023. In 2024 he performed at A Noise Within Theatre in two of their productions, A Skin of Our Teeth and King Hedley II. He is excited to remount Dutch Masters directed by Gregg Daniel at The Cape May Stage.
John Snow* (Steve) is a professional actor, director, and musician living in Los Angeles after years living in NY. As an actor, John has recently performed on-stage both in LA and in NY in plays including Samuel Beckett’s Act Without Words II, Loyalties, Moonchildren, Jersey Boys, Dutch Masters, and quite a few original works with actors such as Bill Irwin, Ethan “Johnnie” Phillips, John Fleck, Arye Gross, Tony Abatemarco, and others. John is grateful for the training he has received from acting stage legends such as Mary Lou Rosato, Tony Giordano, Mary Joan Negro, and others. As a musician and music director, John has had the honor and privilege of performing throughout the world with artists such as Patrice Rushen, Tony Nominee Kathryn Gallagher, India Carney, numerous New York jazz musicians, playing in the pit in WICKED in Broadway, and performing at venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center, Hollywood Bowl, the old Kennedy Center, The Blue Note NYC, and Tavern on the Green. John hosted, music directed, led the band, and was the director for the highly reviewed shows of “Celebration of Stephen Sondheim”,“ Celebration of Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hammerstein”, “Celebration of StephenSondheim”,“Celebration of Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hammerstein”, “Celebration of Nina Simone”, “Celebration of Motown”, “Celebration of Bob Dylan”, and “Celebration of Laurel Canyon and the 70s”. As a director, John recently directed (and music directed) Taubert Nadalini’s new one man cabaret show, “Unnerving Berlin”, and stage great Carolyn Mignini’s one woman cabaret show, “Time is on my Side”. Over the past three and a half years John has collaborated with multiple theatres in putting on highly successful plays, music shows, and staged readings for which he not only performs in, but curates the talent for the performances. In the fall of 2022 and in 2023, John was also the artistic producer and starred in the plays “Moments in Time” and “Dutch Masters” at the Odyssey Theatre to great acclaim. It is an honor for John to be able to be in this production of “Dutch Masters” at the historic Cape May Playhouse directed by one of his favorite directors, Gregg Daniel. The arts are his life, and John is honored to be able to perform for a living as an actor, musician, and director. John is a firm believer in studying the classics in order to understand the modern world. He hopes that theatre can once again return to greatness, and always thinks about what the great Mary Lou Rosato insisted, instilled, and demanded from him for years in New York, “Technique serves the imagination. Without both working together and aligned, an artist has nothing”.
Greg Keller is an Obie award winning actor and playwright. He was a Lila Acheson Wallace Playwriting Fellow at The Juilliard School, where he received the Lecomte du Nouy prize. Dutch Masters has been performed in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and the Berkshires. Greg is thrilled to be making his Cape May debut.
